Yue-Sai Wa Wa Doll Review

China Sprout sells a number of Chinese dolls on their website.  This company is in America, and promotes learning the Chinese language and culture with many books, crafts, toys and other resources. (I got a free catalog with my doll- very interesting variety for a single company.)

Yue-Sai Wa Wa varies in price from $20 to a $350 Chinese Bride doll that comes with a display case. I'm not sure what differences in quality the more expensive dolls have. There are also some discontinued dolls on Amazon.

I purchased two more affordable dolls that came with great outfits and lots of kitchen accessories, my favorite! I love their beautiful boxes and display.

Yue-Sai Wa Wa Chef and Style
Yue-Sai is the name of the designer; Wa Wa is "doll" in Chinese. I think the dolls were originally sold in China, then given a new story as an Asian-American girl. Similar to the Queens of Africa story, Yue-Sai was sad to realize all the Barbie dolls in China were blond-haired and blue-eyed, so she created a doll that helped Chinese girls celebrate themselves and their culture.

Yue-Sai Wa Wa Afternoon Tea
The back of the box tells us that Yue-Sai Wa Wa is an Asian-American girl. (She looks like an adult to me!) I love the description of her personality: "She studies hard at school, respects her parents, and is kind and generous to her friends. She adores music and sports, and loves to dress up and go to parties. Yue-Sai Wa Wa also enjoys learning about her Asian heritage from her parents- a rich culture that is some 5,000 years old."

Afternoon Tea is displayed with her lovely tea set and some snacks.

I love all the tiny pieces! Perhaps parents with small children don't like them as much, but this is my dream doll ensemble. The nice display had a drawback: each tiny item had a sticky glue to hold it in place. My tea set still feels tacky after trying to remove the glue.

Afternoon Tea wears a simple high bun, thick bangs, and long gold earrings. She has red lipstick.
Her smart modern outfit that looks like silk and embroidery. The jacket is sewn shut and hard to manage after removal. Both dolls came with a saddle stand, which fits nicely under their dresses. (One stand was badly bent and unusable.)

Chef and Style comes with two outfits!  A traditional Chinese chef outfit and a beautiful turquoise qi-pao dress.

My chef outfit has disappointing stains. How does this happen on a new doll? I hope they will wash out.  This angle also shows the 3-dimensional cardboard oven. It's not interesting to me, so I tossed it.

Chef and Style carries a little basket of vegetables, tied to her hand with a ribbon that matches her outfit. This is a pretty solution, better than the usual clear plastic bands.

Food includes a tomato, green onions, pepper, yam, eggplant, ginger, and lettuce. Healthy!

Chef and Style wears her hair down with a headband. She has simple gold stud earrings and pink lipstick. Otherwise, her facial features are exactly the same as Afternoon Tea. The chef outfit is white with a qi-pao collar, and ribbons and beads that mimic frog clasps. Both of Chef's outfits velcro up the back and are easy to use. She wears white sandles with this outfit.

The turquoise qi-pao has teeny-tiny embroidery. Everything is scaled perfectly and looks beautiful. The fabric and stitching are nice quality. Most of the clothing pieces are lined with mesh. I highly recommend these dolls.

Full accessory list:
Afternoon Tea comes with three plates, four cups and saucers, a tea box, a sugar bowl, a tea pot, one tray, four spoons, four forks, four treats, three pot stickers, a purse, a gold brush, and (unpictured) a saddle stand and a pair of gold shoes.
Chef and Style comes with one tray, one wok, one chopping block, a butcher's knife, strainer spoon and flipper, two bowls of rice, two small bowls, two soup spoons, a bamboo steamer basket, dim sum, basket of vegetables, and white sandles. (not pictured- gold shoes, saddle stand, and soy sauce. How did I lose the soy sauce already?)
See how perfectly all the accessories go together? All dishwater is a light turquoise with small simplified drawings of blooming cherry branches. I'm glad I bought both sets.

The Wa Was have been re-bodied on Liv dolls to join their "adorable little cousin" Yen Yen Wa Wa, plus Mulan, to model all the outfits and new accessories in my Happy Modern Kitchen
